At Pedersen’s, environmental initiatives are happening at all levels within our organization – from simple efforts to reduce energy on a daily basis, to aggressively seeking ways to minimize packaging of goods. Green is no longer a trend but a way of doing business.
Renting is an effortless way to reduce the unnecessary purchase of disposables and other packaged items that consumers frequently use when entertaining. The phrase Reduce – Reuse – Recycle has become an integral part of how we live on the west coast and forces us to “re-think” how we do things everyday within our operation. We feel it is our responsibility to continue evaluating our day to day operations and efforts to reduce, re use and recycle.
We have established a successful recycling program within our operation for cardboard, paper, cans, bottles, and plastic. We are aware that recycling does utilize a tremendous amount of energy to successfully process an item from start to finish. Ultimately our goal is to attempt to eliminate waste entirely.
In 2008, we installed a high efficiency dishwasher and laundry system. These new machines dramatically reduce the amount of water and detergents needed to meet health and safety standards. All detergents used in the commercial cleaning of our equipment and within our laundry are rated eco friendly by our suppliers.
We use 100% biodegradable plastic bags, as well as reusable plastic boxes and bins for storing and shipping our rental inventory. We will be introducing a new system for packaging our linens to completely eliminate the need for plastic bags. We are in the process of creating a system to dramatically reduce plastic packaging for glassware racks on job sites for large events. We are currently piloting this project within our Seattle operation.
Our catalog is available online and we continue to reduce the number of printed copies each year. Our catalog is printed on recycled paper with 30% post consumer content.
We are pleased with the eco-friendly practices we have introduced but are aware that there is still more that we can do. We are researching bio-diesel as a fuel option for our vehicles and are committed to improving the energy efficiency within our operation. As individuals and as a company, we feel it is our responsibility to work towards a more environmental future.

The Vancouver Playhouse has used Pedersens as its glassware and party supplier for over 10 years.
It amazes me that you can deliver 10,000 Riedel glasses to 20 events so efficiently. It is reassuring to know I can always rely on Pedersens.
Pedersens introduced Vancouver’s 1st Chivari chair in 1992.
